Technical SEO
Technical SEO and Search Console readiness
Prepare a site for crawling, accurate search previews, and owner-controlled Google Search Console verification.
Technical SEO helps search engines access and understand public pages. It does not guarantee indexing or a particular position. Search Console can show information about a property after its owner verifies access; a site should not claim verification before the owner completes that step.
Check crawl and page signals
Confirm that public pages return the expected response, have descriptive titles and summaries, and link to one another in a way people can follow. A sitemap should list intended public URLs. A robots file should keep private areas out of crawl paths while matching the site’s indexing policy.
Keep canonicals consistent with the live page and make structured data match visible content. Do not add invented ratings, customer counts, prices, or service guarantees to structured data. A valid sitemap and schema are technical inputs, not proof of ranking.
Verify the correct property
Use the Google account that controls the business property. Add the exact production domain or URL-prefix property in Search Console and choose one of Google’s offered verification methods. DNS ownership is often appropriate for a full domain; an HTML meta tag is one option for a URL-prefix property.
Only use a token provided by the property owner or Google. Add it to the site’s verification seam, publish the change, and ask Google to verify. Keep the token out of public reports and do not claim success until the property confirms it.
Review data with care
After verification, use Search Console to inspect indexing and search appearance over a meaningful time range. Check that the selected property and dates are correct before describing a result. Search data can be delayed, aggregated, or unavailable for some queries.
Compare changes with the same pages and time windows, and state which evidence supports the conclusion. Use page and inquiry checks alongside search data; a search impression is not the same as a qualified lead.
A short working checklist
- Keep sitemap and robots rules aligned with public pages.
- Match structured data to what the page visibly says.
- Ask the owner for the real Google verification proof.
- Report Search Console results only after Google verifies the property.
